PULI UPMA- TAMARIND RICE FLOUR UPMA/IMLI KA UPMA

Ingredients

Rice flour- 2 cups
Tamarind- small lemon size ball
Mustard seed-1 tsp
Urad dhal- 1 tsp
Split channa dhal- 2 tsp
whole red chillies- 3 no
Curry leaves- 1 sprig
Sesame oil- 1 tbsp
Salt- to taste

Method

Soak the tamarind in hot water & extract the juice from tamarind around 4 cups.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seed, urad dhal,channa dal, chillies , curry leaves & allow to temper.

Add tamarind juice,salt & allow to boil.
Add rice flour slowly & mix gently.
Allow to simmer until done.
Note:
If u need more water while cooking add slowly.

THATTAI

Ingredients



Rice flour – 2 cups (I used Idiyappam flour)
Urad dhal-1/4 cup
Roasted channa dhal-2 tbsp (pottu kadalai)
Hing-1/2tsp
Sesame seed-1 tsp
Salt- to taste
Ghee-1 tbsp

TO GRIND

Coconut-3 tbsp
Red chillies- 2or 3 (can replace with red chilli powder)

Grind a course paste.
If you are using red chilli powder, no need to grind with coconut.

METHOD

Dry roast the urad dhal & grind to almost fine powder.
Dry roast roasted channa dhal to grind to a fine powder.


Mix all ingredients except oil & make a soft tough.Be careful in adding water.
Heat oil in a pan for frying.Take ziplock bag or plastic sheet or banana leaf ,grease it with oil.
Make equal sized small balls & flatten it with your fingers until it thin & folk it to avoid puffing up.



Deep fry in a oil  until golden brown & store in a tight box.
